“Most people tiptoe through life, hoping to make it safely to death.”
Earl Nightingale, Author, speaker, radio personality
This is my last JST before we pause for the holidays, so I just want to take a moment to wish you and your loved ones a happy, peaceful and restful time over the next few weeks. I know for some people, this can be quite a challenging time of the year, so it can be worth remembering to take it easy on yourself and on the people you care about. A little kindness goes a long way, so I encourage you to start by being kind to yourself. At Clarity HQ, we believe the most valuable thing a person can do is discover how their mind works so they can wake to the truth of who they really are. We’ve got some very cool, brand new stuff planned for 2019 in relation to this, so I’ll be telling you all about it in the weeks and months ahead.
Meanwhile, I’m delighted to announce that we’ve now confirmed dates for the Clarity Coach Training programme that’s happening starting in January 2020, a little over a year from now. We’re going to be doing a formal launch of this in a few months’ time, however… if you already know that you’re interested in being part of the 2020 programme, you can head over to JamieSmart.com/coach to complete an application form or book a conversation with a member of my team (just hit the ‘find out more’ button on the page). The price is going up for the 2020 programme but if you do book your place before the end of January, you can get it at the 2018 price here.
This week’s article is an excerpt from The Little Book of Results (©2018 Jamie Smart, published by John Wiley & Sons Ltd)
Mahima doesn’t remember where she flicked through my first book, CLARITY, but a phrase stuck in her mind. . . ‘100% of your feelings come from Thought in the moment’. Not long after that, the massive April 2015 Nepal earthquake hit (Mahima is a crisis management consultant who lives in Kathmandu, 50 miles from the epicentre). The earthquake destroyed buildings, killing thousands, and for the first few hours, Mahima was terrified. Then she had a sudden realization:
Your felt experience is a reflection of Thought, not your circumstances.
In this moment you are as safe as you are ever going to be and as safe as you have ever been.
As Mahima’s fear evaporated, she found that she was more engaged with life, not less. She was more capable and resourceful; able to give her all to the situation, secure in the knowledge that she’d be able to handle it, whatever happened. Mahima had woken up to her inner self; her true nature.
You’re capable of far more than you think, because you are far more than you think. You’re about to get a deeper understanding of your true nature – the source of resourcefulness, resilience and results.
How often do you say ‘I am’?
Think about some of the ‘I am’ statements you use (e.g. I am a man, I am a woman, I am single, I am married, I am stupid, I am clever, I am bad, I am good, I am stressed, I am peaceful, I am bored, I am tired, I am energized etc).
You can think of this sense of ‘I am’ like a light that illuminates whatever we shine it on. When a person says, ‘I am Alex’, ‘I am stuck’ or ‘I am confident’, it’s similar to an equal sign, creating an equation in our perception that goes something like this:
I = Alex
I = stuck
I = confident
Once we’ve shone that sense of ‘I am’ on one of these concepts, it can really feel as though that’s who or what we really are. But who you really are isn’t your name, an emotion or some other label. Who you really are is that sense of ‘I am’.
You are not what you think; you are the thinker.
You are not what the light is shining on; you are the light.
We’re going to be referring to the light of ‘I am’ as Consciousness.
Consciousness: the experience principle
The principle of Consciousness refers to the capacity to have an experience of Thought taking form in the moment. Consciousness brings the Thought-generated experiential reality to life.
Sydney Banks was a Scottish welder who had a profound enlightenment experience in 1974, and realized there are principles behind human psychology (just as there are principles in the fields of physics or chemistry). He once said, “If you’re searching for happiness; if you’re searching for tranquillity. . . if you’re searching just to have a nice, peaceful, loving, understanding life. . . in actual fact, you’re searching for your inner self.”
Whatever you may believe you’ve been searching for until now,
what you’ve really been seeking is your inner self. . .
What you’ve been looking for, you’ve been looking with. . .
You are the light…
That’s nice to know, isn’t it?
Have a beautiful time over the holidays,
Big love
