Here are my enthusiasms this week! Whether you admire, adore or admonish, please let me know what you think in the comments section. At the end, I’ll tell you how you can get one of your enthusiasms featured here.
1) An app I use almost every day
My audible.co.uk account links up to the audible app on my phone and I use it most days. I love audiobooks, especially when they’re read by the author, so I had that written into my contract with my publisher. Both my books (CLARITY & The Little Book of Clarity) are available on audible and iTunes, and I really enjoyed recording them.
2) My favourite foreign language films
Some of my favourite films are Argentinian, and I watch them over and over again. So much to enjoy! Three of my favourites are Wild Tales, Nine Queens, and The Secret In Their Eyes, all starring the tremendous Ricardo Darin. Don’t like subtitles? Deal with it! Your perseverance will be richly rewarded.
3) A book that swept me away
The Amazing Adventures of Kavalier and Clay is one of those books that stole my heart and took it on a wild ride. Most of the fiction I read these days is best described as “pulp” (Jack Reacher thrillers etc) but once in a while I read something truly magical. This is one of those…
4) A documentary that opened my eyes
My dear friends, colleagues and mentors, Valda Monroe and Keith Blevens, PhD recommended this brilliant documentary about fractals: Nova – Hunting the Hidden Dimension. This documentary reveals a hidden intelligence / structure / pattern behind everything in the natural world… or everything in our perception… or both! Fascinating.
5) A metaphor that changed how I think about influence
My pal Dean Jackson uses the brilliant metaphor of mice, cheese and cats to shine a light on the deep subtleties of influence. Highly recommended if you want your message to stand out in our over-communicated world.
And we’re done. If you have questions, suggestions or want to let me know what you’re enthusiastic about, just tweet one of yours and put my twitter name @jamiesmartcom and the #Enthusiasms hashtag in there so I can find it. If I’m enthusiastic about something you’re enthusiastic about, it might just get featured in a future TTE.
Big love
Jamie
