I’ve got 5 mouth-watering morsels for you here. Whether you rate-em them or revile-em, please let me know what you think via twitter at @jamiesmartcom or in the comment section. At the end, I’ll tell you how you can get one of your #enthusiasms featured in a future edition.
1) A quote I love
This week’s quote comes from one of the greatest thinkers, designers and inventors of the 20th century, R Buckminster Fuller. “Bucky” was an architect who invented the geodesic dome and worked tirelessly on solutions to some of humanity’s most debilitating problems. Here’s a quote of his I love…
“You never change things by fighting the existing reality. To change something, build a new model that makes the existing model obsolete.”
2) A video that still makes me laugh
During the first Certified Clarity Coach Training I ran in 2013, I was hit by a sudden inspiration, and talked the group through the famous “20 questions” used by Alcoholics Anonymous to help people determine whether or not they’re suffering from alcoholism. I replaced the word “drinking” with “thinking”, and we discovered just how widespread a hitherto unknown condition is 🙂 You can watch the 3-minute video here to diagnose whether or not you’re a thinkaholic…
3) A podcast I listen to every week
This American Life, hosted by the excellent Ira Glass, is one of the most fascinating and diverse podcasts on the web. Best of all, the quality of programme-making is exceptional. Carlsberg don’t make podcasts, but if they did, it would be This American Life. If you want a taste of what I’m talking about, check out this episode – 129 Cars, about a Long Island car dealer doing whatever it takes to hit their October sales target.
4) One of my favourite books of all time
Synchronicity: The Inner Path of Leadership by Joseph Jaworski is one of those books that stays with you. I’ve read it several times, and see new depths in it with every visit. One of the things I like about it is the way Jaworski tells his own story while weaving in the insights and discoveries along the way. This makes the book extremely readable – highly recommended!
5) A joke I love (scroll down for the punchline)
This is a very silly joke, but it has a certain linguistic sophistication that appeals to me. Or maybe I just have a very childish sense of humour.
Question: What’s brown and sticky?
(Scroll down for the punchline)
And we’re done. If you have questions, suggestions or want to let me know what you’re enthusiastic about, just tweet one of yours and put my twitter name @jamiesmartcom and the #Enthusiasms hashtag in there so I can find it. If I’m enthusiastic about something you’re enthusiastic about, it might just get featured in a future TTE.
Big love
Jamie
