It’s Thursday, and my enthusiasm remains unabated! As usual, please let me know what you think via twitter at @jamiesmartcom, on my Facebook page here, or in the comment section. At the end, I’ll tell you how you can get one of your #enthusiasms featured in a future edition.
1. A quote that got my attention and held it
Robert Rodriguez isn’t just a terrific film director; he’s a one-man media conglomerate, with his own TV network, a painter, an author, and an entrepreneur. One of the reasons Rodriguez is one of my heroes is because he’s a 21st century Renaissance man” – a compelling example of what you can do if you’re willing to play full-out. Here’s this week’s quote:
“Don't be told something is impossible. There's always a way.”
2. A visual metaphor for the difference between intellectual understanding and embodied understanding
Check out this backwards bicycle. I bet you think you’d be able to ride it, don’t you? Maybe, maybe not… 😉 You can watch the video here.
3. Six things that can make you live longer
An in-depth research study published by the Public Library of Science has identified six things that you can eliminate from your lifestyle to make you live longer (this was a six-year study of over 200,000 people, so it’s a pretty chunky piece of research). If you don’t want to read the article, I’ll cut to the chase and tell you the six things: 1) Smoking, 2) Excessive alcohol use, 3) Poor diet, 4) Physical inactivity, 5) Sedentary behavior, and 6) Lack of quality sleep. The fewer of these factors are in your lifestyle, the longer you’re likely to live. You can read the full article here.
4. The key to experiencing the kind of real freedom that anyone who wants to work for themselves desires
I took a break from writing my new book the other day to conduct an interview with Pete Bryceland. Pete is a coach who was part of the very first Case Study group on Project Glasswing when I launched it a year ago. Originally, the idea of these case studies was to only make them available to people on the programme, but Pete’s transformation was so dramatic and valuable that he’s allowed me to share it with my entire community. One of my favourite moments is when Pete talks about the liberating perspective that allows you to get new clients and income whenever you want them (Pete says: “If I need more money, I just go out and get it”). You’re going to see and hear exactly what’s behind this realisation. You can watch the full video interview here.
5. This week’s 3-minute miracle
Here’s the beautiful song “The Commander Thinks Aloud” by The Long Winters. Singer and songwriter John Roderick wrote the song about the Space Shuttle Columbia disaster. Very lovely indeed. Listen to it here.
That’s it for this week. If you have questions, suggestions or want to let me know what you’re enthusiastic about, just tweet one of yours and put my twitter name @jamiesmartcom and the #Enthusiasms hashtag in there so I can find it. If I’m enthusiastic about something you’re enthusiastic about, it might just get featured in a future TTE.
Big love
Jamie
P.S. The next instalment of Project Glasswing is nearly ready to kick off! If you’d like to be considered for the latest intake of the programme, we’ve filled 31 of the 36 places, so there’s 5 places left. There’s room for you if…
– You are a coach, therapist or change-worker (Eg. Sports coach, psychotherapist, hypnotherapist, business coach, bodyworker etc)
– You have at least one year’s experience of working with clients (either paid, pro-bono or both)
– You probably charge by the hour, but want use a “coaching package” model and increase your income
– You have room to work with at least one longer term contract client, starting in February
– You’re an enthusiastic, friendly people-person
– You have a coachable spirit, and are willing to step out of your comfort zone if necessary, and
– You can keep a secret
If that’s you, then email me at info@jamiesmart.com, and let me know where you’re located and a little about yourself (if you don’t know what to tell me about, look at the list above for inspiration). Change the subject line to “Project Glasswing”. I’ll be choosing people in the next couple of weeks. Talk to you soon! J
