Here we go! Let me know what you think via twitter at @jamiesmartcom, on my Facebook page here, or in the comment section. At the end, I’ll tell you how you can get one of your #enthusiasms featured in a future edition of The Thursday Enthusiasms (TTE).
1. A quotation I’m reflecting on this week
This week’s quotation comes from Canadian hockey great, Wayne Gretzky, who famously said:
“I skate to where the puck is going to be, not where it has been.”
2. A book that just arrived in the post
Kevin Kelly is the visionary who created Wired Magazine, as well as lots of other cool stuff. His latest book, The Inevitable, just arrived in the post, and I can’t wait to get stuck in to it.
3. An institute I think is awesome
The Institute for the Future (IFTF) has been producing its annual ten year forecast for nearly 40 years. As far as I know, they’re the only futurist organisation that has outlived its forecasts many times over. You can find out about what they do here.
4. A fascinating perspective
Scott Adams is famous for creating the Dilbert cartoons that poke fun at cubicle life. What you may not know is that he’s also an expert on linguistic influence. His analysis of the chilling rise of Donald Trump is fascinating and perceptive.
5. This week’s 3-minute miracle
The Clash recorded so many mindblowing tracks it’s hard to know where to start. Or at least, it would be if one of those tracks wasn’t the seminal London Calling. This is the stuff that the term “3-minute miracle” was invented for.
That’s it for this week. If you have questions, suggestions or want to let me know what you’re enthusiastic about, just tweet one of yours and put my twitter name @jamiesmartcom and the #Enthusiasms hashtag in there so I can find it. If I’m enthusiastic about something you’re enthusiastic about, it might just get featured in a future TTE.
Big love
Jamie
