It’s enthusiasm time again. Let me know what you think via twitter at @JamieSmartCom, on my Facebook page, or on my blog here.
1. A quote I’m resonating with this week
Louis Pasteur is one of my heroes (he’s one of the bold pioneers who helped get germ-theory established as a mainstream orthodoxy).
“Fortune favours the prepared mind.”
2. Great Sunday Times interview
My friend Adam Ashe plays for the Glasgow Warriors. But in addition to being a great rugby player, he and his team-mate Grayson Hart are passionate about sharing the principles behind clarity with the world. Here’s a lovely interview with Adam from this week’s Sunday Times. https://www.facebook.com/JamieSmartCom/photos/a.10152042639576528.1073741827.48465776527/10155207573461528/?type=3&theater
3. This week’s glimpse of the future
Physicist Stephen Hawking recently spoke to a Hong Kong audience, but with a difference. He appeared in front of the crowd as a hologram, and that’s how the speech was delivered. You can see what that was like here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=suS_flYdKEc
4. A great guest on a terrific podcast
Lawrence Krauss is an entertaining and brilliant theoretical physicist (I mentioned his excellent lecture A Universe From Nothing in one of my TTE articles last year. Here he is talking about his latest book (among other things) on the excellent Joe Rogan Experience. WARNING: It starts with a conversation about gauge symmetry that you may want to give a miss. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bDhHK8nk_V0
5. This week’s 3 minute miracle
I first heard the song Runaway by Kanye West during Adam Curtis’ brilliant documentary Bitter Lake. Great song, great video. Here’s the 8-minute mix with a great guitar piece near the end (if you just want to hear that, start from six minutes so you can get a run at it). Apparently Kanye’s not in many people’s good books, but this is terrific stuff. https://youtu.be/L7_jYl8A73g
That’s it for this week!
Thanks and big love,
Jamie
PS. I’m conducting an experiment. I’m researching something new, and I’m looking for the right group of people to take part in it. Here’s how you’ll know if you’re right for my experiment (and vice-versa):
– You are currently in full-time employment, but…
– You want to transition from your job to something more fulfilling and “on-purpose”
– You sense that it’ll probably take 1-2 years to complete the transition, but…
– Your goal hasn’t been getting much closer; it seems to stay the same distance away
– You want to make progress, but lack clarity about either the ‘what’ or the ‘how’
– You know that if you were clear on those, with a solid plan, you’d do what it takes to make it happen
– You’re coachable, and willing to stretch yourself
If that’s you, then send me a message at info@jamiesmart.com telling me about what you currently do and where you’re located. I’m going to be choosing people over the next few weeks. Please make the subject line “Project Jupiter” so I know what it’s in relation to.
