It’s enthusiasm time again. Let me know what you think via twitter at @JamieSmartCom, on my Facebook page, or on my blog below.
1. A quote I’m resonating with this week
I sometimes listen to the Future Thinkers podcast, and I follow @FutureThinkers_ on twitter. Here’s a tweet I really liked, and that resonates deeply with me at the moment:
“If you want to do something extraordinary, there is no map. You have to make your own map.”
2. I love podcasts
Even though we’re often told that people’s attention span is shrinking in the face of social media, hundreds of millions of people are spending anywhere from 45 minutes to 3 hours consuming long-form material via podcasts (Why? Because you can listen to podcasts while you’re doing other things!)
Last Sunday was international podcast day, so to celebrate, we’re re-releasing our most downloaded podcast episode ever: “The Search Is Over (except when it isn’t)”
In this keynote from the Unlimited Conference in Helsinki in 2015, I reveal the keys to resilience, performance and releasing your potential. I explain the subtle tricks of the mind that cause stress and anxiety, and point out the simple insights and realisations that can have you stop searching and start finding what everybody is looking for: fulfilment, peace of mind and enlightened success. You can listen to this episode here
3. This week’s glimpse of the future
Tim Berners-Lee is the intellectual giant who invented the World Wide Web (thanks Tim!) In the past week, he’s announced Solid, a response to the accumulation of web-power with media giants like Facebook and Google. Here’s an article where he describes what Solid is, and how it’s going to re-democratise the internet to empower all of us. Thanks again, Tim! https://www.inrupt.com/blog/one-small-step-for-the-web
4. A web-conference I’m excited about speaking at
Do you want to do, become or achieve something from the quiet whisperings of a deep wish within your heart? The 2018 Realising Potential on-line conference is happening from the 27-30th October. This event has over 30 principle based speakers looking at what and how to achieve our innermost dreams, making the seemingly impossible possible. I’m going to be one of the speakers, and there’s a great bonus when you sign up.
5. This week’s 3 minute miracle
I’ve been a huge Frank Zappa fan ever since I was 13 or 14 years old. One of my favourite albums is ‘The Grand Wazoo’, a musical cornucopia with so many favourite moments it’s difficult to pick just one. But there is one. Three minutes and 42 seconds into the song, The Grand Wazoo, there’s the best horn solo I’ve ever heard. I’m not sure if it’s Billy Byers’ trombone or Sal Marquez’ trumpet, but whoever it is, they’re amazing. The solo is a gem, but it’s worth listening to the track right from the start so they can set the scene for the solo. Zappa is one of the great composers of the 20th century, and you can hear it on this track: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4ceVq2v3nVs
That’s it for this week!
