I’ve got 5 tasty treats for you this week. Whether they’re lovely or losers, please let me know what you think via twitter at @jamiesmartcom, on my Facebook page here, or in the comment section. At the end, I’ll tell you how you can get one of your #enthusiasms featured in a future edition.
1. A quote I really like
I met one of my heroes, Seth Godin, last week at a talk he gave in London. Here’s one of his more pithy quotes:
“If you're remarkable, then it's likely that some people won't like you. That's part of the definition of remarkable. Nobody gets unanimous praise – ever.
The best the timid can hope for is to be unnoticed. Criticism comes to those who stand out.”
2. An author I adore
The British journalist, Jon Ronson has written some of the books I’ve most enjoyed reading. The audiobook of his latest work, So You’ve Been Publicly Shamed is funny, moving and utterly surprising. Not only that, but it’s read by the author – 5 stars!
3. A cartoon that makes me howl
A TV series that’s bad, wrong and hilarious. Sterling Archer is the cartoon super-spy working as a secret agent for his mother’s agency. His relationship with his mother is wildly dysfunctional, and the funnies fly thick and fast. This is definitely not for children, but you’ll get a sense of whether or not it’s your cup of tea by watching some of the clips here.
4. An opportunity I really enjoyed
Earlier this year, Clarity Practitioner Niko Leppanen invited me to kick off the Unlimited 2015 conference in Helsinki, Finland. I accepted immediately, and was blown away by the open-ness and receptiveness of everyone I met. You can watch the video of my keynote, “The Search is Over, Except When It’s Not” here.
5. A podcast I binge-listened to
Startup is the utterly compelling story of Alex Blumberg’s journey to create a successful startup business (the clue’s in the name). Brilliant, utterly compelling storytelling. You can listen to the first episode, How Not to Pitch A Billionaire here.
That’s it for this week. If you have questions, suggestions or want to let me know what you’re enthusiastic about, just tweet one of yours and put my twitter name @jamiesmartcom and the #Enthusiasms hashtag in there so I can find it. If I’m enthusiastic about something you’re enthusiastic about, it might just get featured in a future TTE.
Big love
Jamie
