TTE28 – The Thursday Enthusiasms – Footprints, film-making and the future
Here we go with some more good’s. As usual, please let me know what you think via twitter at @jamiesmartcom, on my Facebook page here, or in the comment section. At the end, I’ll tell you how you can get one of your #enthusiasms featured in a future edition.
1. A wonderful quote that I adore
This one comes from the great physicist, Sir Arthur Eddington, and is one of the quotes I ponder most frequently. I love it. Enjoy!
“We have found a strange foot-print on the shores of the unknown. We have devised profound theories, one after another, to account for its origins.
At last, we have succeeded in reconstructing the creature that made the footprint. And lo! It is our own.”
2. Praise Quentin!
Quentin Tarantino’s 8th movie is a doozie! As usual, the cast is fantastic, the script is sizzling, and the direction is dazzling, but there’s more… The thing that really struck me watching this film is just what a great storyteller QT really is. This one also has something in common with his first film, Reservoir Dogs; I’d love to see it done as a stage play. If you like Quentin Tarantino movies, you’re going to love The Hateful Eight. You can watch the trailer here.
3. I love it when people accurately predict the future
Watch in amazement as sci-fi writer Arthur C Clarke predicts the internet in 1974, a solid 17 years before Tim Berners-Lee announced the worldwide web, and a clear 20 years before you and I knew anything about it. This is why I like science fiction.
4. This week’s 3-minute miracle
My barber, Sean, switched me on to this track by the German folk music duo, Milky Chance. OK, so I understand you might not be a fan of German folk music, but have you actually heard any? Here’s their ace tune, Stolen Dance (it’s actually 5 minutes, but who’s counting).
That’s it for this week. If you have questions, suggestions or want to let me know what you’re enthusiastic about, just tweet one of yours and put my twitter name @jamiesmartcom and the #Enthusiasms hashtag in there so I can find it. If I’m enthusiastic about something you’re enthusiastic about, it might just get featured in a future TTE.
Big love
Jamie
