I’m getting a very positive response to these weekly enthusiasms, so they’ll continue. Whether you admire, adore or admonish, please let me know what you think in the comments section. Plus, this week's article contains the first of our guest #enthusiasms (at the end, I’ll tell you how you can get one of your enthusiasms featured in this article too).
1) My favourite snooker player
My favourite snooker player is Jimmy White; who’s yours? Don’t have one? Sort it out. While "The Whirlwind" has never won the world championship (he was robbed!), he’s the most exciting, creative player I’ve ever seen. Never seen him? Here are 10 of his more blistering shots for you to enjoy; number 6 is my favourite…
2) A book I love
Quantum Psychology: How Brain Software Programs You and Your World by the wonderful Robert Anton Wilson. This is one of my favourite books of all time, and one that I’ve re-read at least 6 or 7 times. It’s like a user’s guide for the bumper-sticker, “The map is not the territory”. Warning/Guarantee: Robert Anton Wilson has probably had more impact on my personal writing style than any other writer. Make sure you do the exercises!
3) A fascinating documentary
Bitter Lake is a terrific new documentary from superb film-maker, Adam Curtis (creator of “The Century of the Self” among other wonders). Bitter Lake explains how the simplistic “good vs evil” narrative trotted out by many western politicians in recent years has had a key role in shaping much of the chaos and confusion in the world today.
4) Fantastic footwear
Jeffrey West in Northampton (heart of the UK shoe industry) make some of the finest footwear I’ve ever laid eyes on. If you’re struggling to find a gift for the man who has everything, I’m currently longing for a pair of Brilleaux Wing Gibsons with aubergine polish (size 9).
5) A game I love
Playing the Cashflow 101 board game helped me transform my psychology around money, wealth and abundance. When I drove home across London after first playing the game in 1999, I literally saw a different city than the one I’d seen on the way there. Thanks to @_ClesiaMendes for sharing her #enthusiasms; this one was already one of mine too, Clésia!
That’s all for this week. If you have questions, suggestions or want to let me know what you’re enthusiastic about, just tweet one of yours and put my twitter name @jamiesmartcom and the #Enthusiasms hashtag in there so I can find it. If I’m enthusiastic about something you’re enthusiastic about, it might just get featured in a future TTE like Clésia’s did!
Big love
Jamie
