Another week, and I’m still getting hit with bursts of enthusiasm. Let me know what you think via twitter at @jamiesmartcom, on my Facebook page here, or on my blog here.
- A quotation I’m reflecting on this week
The writer / linguist / scientist / political activist / MIT Professor Noam Chomsky is someone whose opinions and commentary I find very wise and insightful. Here’s one I read from him this week:
“If we don’t believe in freedom of expression for people we despise, we don’t believe in it at all.”
- An app that points to the future of communication
I’m now on Snapchat: @jsmart999 – if you’re already there, reach out and connect with me. I’ve been experimenting with it, and I thought I’d share how it’s looking, a few days in:
– it’s messy and fun
– things only last 24 hours
– you can only make 10 second videos
– the constraints drive you to be creative
– this has you think in new ways about sharing your message
You can download snapchat to your smartphone and add me on @jsmart999 or add me via my snapcode. (The snapcode is the purple photo, below. Save it to the photos on your phone. Then, once you’re on snapchat, go to “Add Friends” then select “Add by username” or “Add by Snapcode”. If you hit “Add by Snapcode”, it’ll find the photo on your phone and add me that way.) I’m sharing selections from my new book RESULTS on snapchat and having conversations with the early adopters who are joining me there, so if that’s your cup of tea, connect with me. Looking forward to connecting with you there!
- A Coaching Breakthrough Unpacked
Last month, you may have seen a video I sent out of a breakthrough coaching session I did with coach Liz Scott around how to transition from hourly rates to a “package” model. I got a big response to the video, with lots of curiosity about how I managed to guide Liz into such a big shift in such a short period of time. So… I decided to get the entire session transcribed, and then to go through it, line by line, and make notes about what was going on. Specifically, what I was noticing, what I was responding to, and what was guiding my questions. If you’re a geek like me and want to download the full 10-page annotated transcript, you can get it at www.JamieSmart.com/transcript as my gift to you (you can watch the video here www.JamieSmart.com/transcript at the same time).
- We’re the superhumans
Back in the early days of Jonathan Ross’ career, he had a chat show called “The Last Resort”. One week, he had two acrobats performing on it, one of whom had only one leg, and the other who had no arms. They were wonderful, but their appearance received a record number of viewer complaints (remember, this was the 1980s). So the next week, Ross had them on again. I loved it! 30 years on, and we’ve all moved on. This trailer for the upcoming Rio paralympics is amazing and wonderful www.youtube.com/watch?v=IocLkk3aYlk
- 3 minute miracle
You know those songs you love as soon as you hear them? Such Great Heights by Iron and Wine is one of those – it’s beautiful, and you can listen to it here: www.youtube.com/watch?v=tCYWymG9fSs
One last thing: Just over three years ago, I launched the first ever Certified Clarity Coach Training Programme. We’ve just completed the 3rd year, and we’re building a close-knit community of highly-skilled, Certified Clarity Coaches. As well as the students who join us live in-person, we’ve got people training with us from all around the world (from as far afield as Brazil and Australia) via our state-of-the-art virtual technology. So I’m happy to announce the 2016 / 2017 programme, and we’ve made some changes. The programme is by application only, and the selection criteria is strict. We’ve just opened the door for applications, and we’ve put a strict limit on numbers – so register your interest now to make sure your hat is in the ring. The early booking discount on this programme expires on 30th July so I encourage you to take a look now
