Ho ho ho! Get yer enthusiasms out. Let me know what you think via twitter at @jamiesmartcom, on my Facebook page here, or in the comments below.
1. A quote I’m resonating with this week
I’m listening to Ryan Holiday’s audiobook, The Obstacle is the Way, and this quote jumped out at me:
“Today, most of our obstacles are internal, not external. Since World War II we have lived in some of the most prosperous times in history. There are fewer armies to face, fewer fatal diseases and far more safety nets. But the world still rarely does exactly what we want. Instead of opposing enemies, we have internal tension. We have professional frustration. We have unmet expectations. We have learned helplessness. And we still have the same overwhelming emotions humans have always had: grief, pain, loss.”
2. The future is now, again!
TeamClarity technology genius, Dzidek Sabat, gave me a heads-up on the latest in virtual reality, “Ultra Haptics”. Basically, speakers create the sensation of touch without you actually touching anything (except air vibrations). This is mindblowing! http://www.ultrahaptics.com/hapticsvrx/
3. A funny educational video series I really like
“Adam Ruins Everything” is the creation of comedian Adam Conover. His short videos are informative, funny and “myth-bust” various social norms, ranging from prostitution to the Oscars. Here’s one on airport security screening called, Why The TSA Doesn’t Stop Terrorist Attacks https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-LDzOi1dyAA&index=39&list=PLuKg-WhduhkksJoqkj9aJEnN7v0mx8yxC
4. An article on the “growth mindset”
Last week’s article started with a quote from Pixar president Ed Catmull about their iterative development process. Here’s the article about the growth mindset where I found the quote https://www.virgin.com/entrepreneur/power-adopting-growth-mindset
5. This week’s 3 minute miracle
I’ve never been much of a Mariah Carey fan, but when her Christmas single came out in 1994, it had that incredibly rare “instant classic” feel to it (think “Yesterday” by Paul McCartney). This song feels like a beautiful blast from a past that never existed. Enjoy! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yXQViqx6GMY
Thanks and big love,
Jamie
PS Wishing you a wonderful time over the holiday season
