Here are my enthusiasms this week! Whether you admire, adore or admonish, please let me know what you think in the comments section below. At the end, I’ll tell you how you can get one of your enthusiasms featured in this article.
1. A comic that makes me laugh
I was 14 years old when I first discovered the comic book, Reid Fleming, World’s Toughest Milkman. His square nose, violent temper and disregard for authority deeply appealed to my adolescent brain. Plus ça change! 🙂
2. A martial art I’m passionate about
I love Krav Maga, the practical self-defence system developed by Imi Lichtenfeld in the 1930s so he and his friends could defend their neighbourhood against anti-semitic gangs. I strongly recommend all my friends (particularly my female friends) to train in Krav Maga. It could save your life. I’ve trained with Patrick Cumiskey at http://www.kravmagaireland.com/ and Roger Hunt at http://www.totalcombatacademy.com. They’re both excellent.
3. A youtube series I’m totally into
The Director’s Chair series by Roberto Rodriguez. I’ve been a big fan of Rodriguez’ work since his roller-coaster no-budget burrito Western El Mariachi took the Audience Award at the Sundance Film Festival. He kicks the series off with the best interview I’ve ever seen with John Carpenter, legendary director of Halloween, The Thing and Assault on Precinct 13.
4. A person I’m loving
I’ve seen Amanda Palmer’s TED Talk The Art of Asking several times and loved it. Now I’m listening to her audiobook of the same name, and it’s brilliant. You can watch her TED talk here and find the book and audiobook in all the usual places.
5. A delicious snack
Believe it or not, I never tried fried halloumi until a few months ago. I love it! It’s low in carbs, high in protein, high in fat and it tastes delicious. I pan-fry it in avocado oil for a tasty treat, though I’ve heard coconut oil is good too. Enjoy!
That’s it for this week. If you have questions, suggestions or want to let me know what you’re enthusiastic about, just tweet one of yours and put my twitter name @jamiesmartcom and the #Enthusiasms hashtag in there so I can find it. If I’m enthusiastic about something you’re enthusiastic about, it might just get featured in a future TTE.
Big love
Jamie
P.S. Following the success of the beta-tests, I’m looking for a small group of very specific people for my final 'Project Glasswing' programme of 2015, launching in October. Here’s what I’m looking for:
- You are a coach, therapist or change-worker (Eg. Sports coach, psychotherapist, hypnotherapist, business coach, bodyworker etc)
- You have at least one year’s experience of working with clients (either paid, pro-bono or both)
- You probably charge by the hour, but want to use a “coaching package” model to increase your income & make it more consistent
- You have space in your practice to work with at least one longer term contract client, starting in November
- You’re an enthusiastic, friendly people-person
- You have a coachable spirit, and are willing to step out of your comfort zone if necessary, and
- You can keep a secret
If that’s you, then just email me at info@jamiesmart.com, and let me know where you’re located and a little about yourself (if you don’t know what to tell me about, look at the list above for inspiration). Make the subject line “Project Glasswing”. I’ll be choosing people in the next couple of weeks. Talk to you soon! J
