It’s enthusiasm time again. Let me know what you think via twitter at @JamieSmartCom, on my Facebook page, or on my blog here.
1. A quote I’m resonating with this week
I’m currently listening to the behemoth audiobook of Robert A Heinlein’s classic, Stranger in a Strange Land. The book is fantastic, and in light of the current political climate and all the smoke, light and heat it appears to be generating, this quote really jumped out at me:
“Democracy is a poor system of government at best; the only thing that can honestly be said in its favor is that it is eight times as good as any other method the human race has ever tried. Democracy’s worst fault is that its leaders are likely to reflect the faults and virtues of of their constituents.”
2. Another brilliant audiobook
One of my favourite comedians is the wonderful Doug Stanhope. He’s definitely not everyone’s cup of tea (a lot of his standup cuts extremely close to the bone), but I get so many LOL moments with Stanhope that it’s easily worth it. His autobiographical book Digging Up Mother https://www.amazon.co.uk/Digging-Up-Mother-Love-Story/dp/B01J8F86TY is a hilarious and disgusting story of his deep love for his mother, a deeply flawed human being who encouraged and supported him with a fierce loyalty. The audiobook has plenty of ‘off-script’ moments and contributions from many of the people mentioned in the book. Really brilliant.
3. This week’s glimpse of the future
“Scientists discover how to ‘upload knowledge to your brain’” Really? No, not quite. The Matrix is still a little ways away, but the start they’ve made is already extraordinary. Find out more here: http://www.telegraph.co.uk/technology/2016/03/01/scientists-discover-how-to-download-knowledge-to-your-brain/
4. An Instagram Account I Love
Maryann Johanson is a terrific film critic. You can read her thought-provoking reviews at http://www.flickfilosopher.com/, but if you need a quick and easy thumbs up or thumbs down on a film, her Instagram account (FlickFilosopher) gives you a traffic light rating on what’s showing. You can follow her here: https://www.instagram.com/flickfilosopher/
5. This week’s 3 minute miracle
I first heard this song when I was watching the incredible movie Drive with Ryan Gosling. The film is brilliant; the music is incredible. Check out Tick of the Clock by The Chromatics https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_5z_4wgvXrw
That’s it for this week!
Thanks and big love,
Jamie
PS The current instalment of Project Glasswing is underway, and we’re turning our sights on Glasswing 8. The first 13 places have already been filled, so there are 23 seats remaining (we expect it to be fully booked by the time we start, as usual.) If you’d like to be considered for one of those 23 places, here’s how you’ll know if you’re a good fit:
– You are a coach, therapist or change-worker (Eg. Sports coach, psychotherapist, hypnotherapist, business coach, bodyworker, consultant etc)
– You have at least one year’s experience of working with clients (either paid, pro-bono or both)
– You probably charge by the hour, but want to use a “coaching package” model and increase your income
– You have room to work with at least one longer term contract client, starting in May 2017
– You want to take your practice to the next level in 2017, and are willing to put step out of your comfort zone if necessary
– You’re an enthusiastic, friendly people-person
– You have a coachable spirit, and
– You can keep a secret
If that’s you, then email me at info@jamiesmart.com, and let me know where you’re located and a little about yourself (if you don’t know what to tell me about, look at the list above for inspiration). Change the subject line to “Project Glasswing TTE”. I’ll be choosing people in the next couple of weeks. Talk to you soon!
