It’s enthusiasm time again. Let me know what you think via twitter at @JamieSmartCom, on my Facebook page, or on my blog here.
1. A quote I’m resonating with this week
This week’s quote comes from legendary physicist Stephen Hawking, and is on a subject I’m fascinated with.
“Artificial intelligence and increasing automation is going to decimate middle class jobs, worsening inequality and risking significant political upheaval, Stephen Hawking has warned. In a column in The Guardian, the world-famous physicist wrote that ‘the automation of factories has already decimated jobs in traditional manufacturing, and the rise of artificial intelligence is likely to extend this job destruction deep into the middle classes, with only the most caring, creative or supervisory roles remaining.'”
2. Audiobook: The Watchmans Rattle
As it happens, Hawking’s quote leads beautifully onto a book I’m loving (recommended to me by my old friend, Joseph Riggio). The Watchman’s Rattle by Rebecca Costa is an enthralling look at why civilizations collapse, and what we can do to stop it happening again. The solution is something that chimes beautifully with everything I’m passionate about. I’m only 1/4 of the way through the book but it’s definitely a winner.
3. This week’s glimpse of the future
Elon Musk (Tesla inventor and inspiration for Tony Stark’s character in Iron Man) reckons that universal basic income is just over the horizon. The world is changing, brothers and sisters. Hang on to your hat! https://futurism.com/elon-musk-automation-will-force-governments-to-introduce-universal-basic-income/
4. A film I really enjoyed (La La Land)
One thing you may not know about me is this: I hate musicals. However, once in a while, I give in. Last time was in 2012 when I took my daughters to see Les Miserables and it was a terrible mistake: 3 hours that seemed like 30 hours that are never coming back. Five years down the road, I decided to give musicals another chance, so I went to see La La Land following Flick Filosopher’s recommendation. It has two of my favourite actors (Emma Stone and Ryan Gosling) so I thought it could be a winner, and it was! For extra enjoyment, take people who love musicals. In my case, I took my daughters, and we all loved it. You can watch the trailer here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0pdqf4P9MB8
5. This week’s 3 minute miracle
Sometimes a song is so hooky that it won’t leave you alone. Pumped up Kicks by Foster The People is just such a song. You have to wait until 1:07 for the hook, but it’s the pop music equivalent of carbs, candy and crack; extremely more-ish. https://youtu.be/SDTZ7iX4vTQ
That’s it for this week!
Thanks and big love,
Jamie
PS The first 25 places on Glasswing 8 have already been filled, so there are 11 seats remaining (we expect it to be fully booked by the time we start, as usual.) If you’d like to be considered for a place, here’s how you’ll know if you’re a good fit:
– You are a coach, therapist or change-worker (Eg. Sports coach, psychotherapist, hypnotherapist, business coach, bodyworker, consultant etc)
– You have at least one year’s experience of working with clients (either paid, pro-bono or both)
– You probably charge by the hour, but want to use a “coaching package” model and increase your income
– You have room to work with at least one longer term contract client, starting in May 2017
– You want to take your practice to the next level in 2017, and are willing to put step out of your comfort zone if necessary
– You’re an enthusiastic, friendly people-person
– You have a coachable spirit, and
– You can keep a secret
If that’s you, then email me at info@jamiesmart.com, and let me know where you’re located and a little about yourself (if you don’t know what to tell me about, look at the list above for inspiration). Change the subject line to “Project Glasswing TTE”. I’ll be choosing people in the next couple of days. Talk to you soon!
