It’s enthusiasm time again. Let me know what you think via twitter at @JamieSmartCom, on my Facebook page, or on my blog here.
1. A quote I’m resonating with this week
The fact that he wrote the book the film Blade Runner was based on (Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep) should guarantee Philip K. Dick a place in the “Greatest Science Fiction Writers Of All Time” Hall of Fame. His definition of reality is pithy, succinct and right on the money:
“Reality is that which, when you stop believing in it, doesn’t go away.”
2. A film I’m excited to see
The novel IT by Stephen King was utterly engrossing, but the made-for-tv movie didn’t come close to fulfilling its promise. Now there’s a movie version that doesn’t star Tim Curry, and initial glimpses are giving me hope. You can watch the trailer here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FnCdOQsX5kc
3. This week’s glimpse of the future
I wrote about the future of work in RESULTS. This World Economic Forum article called The jobs of the future – and two skills you need to get them makes for interesting reading. www.weforum.org/agenda/2016/09/jobs-of-future-and-skills-you-need
4. A rather lovely and hilarious advert
This sendup of American pharmaceutical adverts isn’t just funny, it’s also rather on-point. Enjoy! https://youtu.be/Bf5TgVRGND4
5. This week’s 3 minute miracle
Shining Light by Irish Indie darlings Ash is terrific. It starts out sounding super-straightforward, but I love the way the song layers and builds. By the time you hit the first chorus, it’s a thing of beauty. Check it out: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uc5gMaw1s1g
That’s it for this week!
Thanks and big love,
Jamie
PS. The audiobook of my Sunday Times Bestseller RESULTS: Think Less, Achieve More is due to be released on April 18th, however… a few months back I made a ‘jailbreak’ version of the first 2 chapters. If you want to listen to them and get a flavour of what you’re in for with the full audiobook, you can listen to them here: https://www.jamiesmart.com/rmp08/
