Show notes:
She says that what sparked her interest in becoming a transformation professional is when she was helping her teams to excel when she was in commercial. She got really interested in why some people seem to thrive while others seem to struggle more.
“I got really curious about the mind and human condition from quite a young age”
Since she didn’t do well at school, she says it made her want to do really well in the world of work. She shares that she had a lot of drive and was constantly researching about new ways of working. In her 20s, she started to be really interested in psychology.
Chantal admits that there were challenges everyday in her early career and that it was a very competitive with quick turn-around times. She says that it got her used to work in that type of environment; to not take things personally and to move on after setbacks.
“When I think about life it kind of feels just like it’s all a bit of an obstacles, sometimes you can really see the obstacles, they’re straight ahead of you; other times they kind of just show up”
According to her, all that set her up to be a better navigator and to see obstacles as opportunities to learn and get better. She adds that when we focus what we do on us and take it personally, that it creates unnecessary barriers and limitations.
“When there is sort of less of ‘I’ and ‘me’ in my work, there is just more potential for connection, more potential for really being able to be in service to myself and others”
When Chantal was writing her book and was really in the flow, she didn’t feel like she was the one writing, it and when she was thinking about her writing the book, she couldn’t write.
“When I forgot and I just stayed focused on a bigger vision of what I was trying to achieve and why I was doing it, I found myself in a place where wisdom just wrote for me”
Chantal notes how your focus should be all about the client. According to her, when you position yourself as the expert it creates a lot of expectations and pressure and she adds that no one is an expert in human condition and that everyone has potential inside.
“I want them to know that they have what they need and all I’m going to do is help them to uncover that and see that for themselves”
She says she built her business organically and that it’s what works for her. As soon as she was starting to plan, that it was a barrier for her. When an opportunity presents itself to her she moves fast and at other times, when the feeling of momentum is not there, she waits until that feeling comes up.
“When something is right we don’t need to worry, we can relax, because you’ll know, you just have to be present enough to just hear and listen”
She mentions that she wishes she had known her value and recognized that she had something to share that’s going to help people. She adds that she also wishes she had known that things didn’t have to be perfect and that you didn’t have to be particularly qualified. If you are passionate and feel that sense of purpose, just start.
