RMP 36: Louise Storey – Clarity, Connection and Parenting a Child with Autism

Louise Storey has a background in the software industry but has recently transitioned to doing something she really loves; hosting people and helping create beautiful experiences for them. As well as being a part-time coach and running a guest-house, Louise is the mother of two young children… and one of the interesting things about her is that her son Jack is autistic, so she’s got a unique and enlightening perspective on the challenges that so many people face. As you’ll hear, her realisations go far beyond autism, and are relevant to all parenting and all relationships.

In a few months’ time, I’m doing a collaboration with my dear friends and colleagues Michael Neill and Garret Kramer. I’ve known Michael since 2003, and Garret since 2010, and while we’ve each collaborated as pairs, this is the first time the 3 of us have done something together. DISTINCTION: The fact of connection vs the experience of connection

In his fascinating video, A Universe From Nothing, cosmologist Lawrence Krauss gives a brilliant, eloquent and elegant proof that the universe has arisen from nothing; from a sea of formless energy. The fact is that we’re each made of the ‘nothingness’ from which the universe sprang. On one level, we can experience ourselves as separate from each other, and distinct from our physical environment. This is a practical matter. But on another level, we are all made of this same formless energy. Like waves in an ocean, we are all part of the same undivided wholeness. Just as waves don’t leave the ocean and ‘go solo’, we are never disconnected from this infinite ocean of energy. This is the fact of connection. Read More →

RMP 35: Mahima Shrestha – Real World Realisations

This episode is an interview I did with Mahima Shrestha during a module of the Clarity Coach Training Programme. The previous day, one of the students had asked, “This stuff is all well and good, but how do these principles work in the case of ‘real stuff'”. Mahima was able to give a personal account of exactly that, as she had a huge insight when she was caught in the 2015 Nepal earthquake. Mahima is a crisis management consultant who’s passionate about bringing people together, finding solutions to complex problems and facilitating long-term change in culture and communities. And one of the interesting things about Mahima is that she’s got a background in journalism and PR.

On 7th December, the UK’s Independent newspaper published an article called “How to behave like a natural born leader”. They proceeded to interpret a recent study to suggest that “anyone can behave like a leader if they want to.”

A wonderful bit from lecture 4 of Grayson Perry’s wonderful Reith Lectures. While he’s talking about artists, I can’t think of many vocations or callings where this wouldn’t apply.

In this session, you’ll hear me coaching Liz Scott. What starts out as a ‘tactical’ question about coaching packages (what’s involved, how do they work etc) turned into a much deeper conversation about value, integrity and who you really are. Liz is a coach and trainer who works with a wide variety of individuals and organisations, ranging from police forces to education authorities. She collaborates with schools and works directly with children, teachers and head-teachers. And one of the interesting things about Liz is that she worked as a reporter and producer for the BBC for 12 years. And following this coaching session, Liz went on to train with me as a Clarity Coach.
