I was listening to the Very Bad Wizards podcast when they were interviewing Sam Harris, and he made a very clear point about why dogma is so dangerous. Here’s what he said:
“Dogma is, by definition, unresponsive to new arguments and new evidence. And therefore you can’t correct course; if you’re being guided by a dogma, you’re not flexible. You know, when reality tells you you’re wrong, you either don’t notice, or pretend not to notice or insist on moving forward, and then you bump into hard objects.
