I see so many people trying to “carpet a world” that is inherently chaotic, changeable and risky. Far more powerful imho is to wake up to your innate resilience, put on your “inner slippers” and have at it!

This week’s quote comes from the amazing Helen Keller. As well as being an author, political activist, and lecturer. Supported by a wonderful mentor (Anne Sullivan), Helen overcame extraordinary obstacles to become the first deaf-blind person to earn a bachelor of arts degree.

I was saddened to learn that the well-known atheist and brilliant evolutionary biologist Richard Dawkins was de-platformed from giving a talk in Berkeley California by folks who don’t like him criticising ideas and belief systems (Dawkins is an avowed anti-religionist). While I disagree with much that Dawkins says, I am passionately in favour of free speech. Promoting hatred against individuals and groups is wrong and deserves our contempt. Criticism of ideas is healthy, and no ideas are above criticism. Not even religious ideas. Here’s a quote from Dawkins:

While I am unabashedly “spiritual” in my outlook on life, I often find myself resonating deeply with the work of renowned atheists such as Sam Harris, Lawrence Krauss, Daniel Dennett and Dickie Dawkins. Here’s Dennett’s answer to the question, “What do you say to those who reckon philosophy doesn’t go anywhere?”
