I was listening to Sam Harris’ excellent ‘Waking Up’ podcast this week, and he was interviewing the German philosopher Thomas Metzinger. Metzinger made a point which really struck me, and that’s had me reflecting on just how good we’ve got it.

This week’s quote comes from legendary physicist Stephen Hawking, and is on a subject I’m fascinated with.

I’m currently listening to the behemoth audiobook of Robert A Heinlein’s classic, Stranger in a Strange Land. The book is fantastic, and in light of the current political climate and all the smoke, light and heat it appears to be generating, this quote really jumped out at me:
